A Land Without Guns: How Japan Has Virtually Eliminated Shooting Deaths (via buttension)
see, that’s gun control
you don’t take away a person’s right to bear arms
you take away a person’s ability to abuse their arms
i mean it’s high maintenance but i really think it’d be worth it if it saves lives
Why the hell are they quoted as saying it’s UNUSUAL to prove your mental fitness to own a firearm. Wouldn’t it generally be a smart idea to have someone prove that they understand the consequences of owning or misusing a firearm in the first place?
They say it’s unusual because many people in the United States are under the false assumption that gun owners in America don’t have to undergo some kind of mental health screening. They do. Unfortunately, people in the United States are completely unfamiliar with the concept of accountability. “Oh, this guy posted countless videos online talking about how he’s going to kill everyone? Probably a joke.”
Also, yes, that is gun control. Gun control so incredibly strict that it does exactly what the second amendment was supposed to prevent: the government deciding who is allowed to own and use guns for any reason they choose. Everyone bitches about politicians preventing certain people from voting, or putting particular people in jail. So you would prefer the only people who get guns are rich males who donate to the right political party? Not to mention the sheer size of the United States makes laws like these ineffective. You can’t compare countries as simply as everyone wishes you could. Japan and America are very different when it comes to politics, law enforcement, culture, size, population density. Laws are never one size fits all.
